Alaya stood on deck with a mop and bucket in hand. It was her job to scrub the deck every night, not that she cared really but it was getting boring. Seeker rested on her shoulder and she moped the deck. The sun was setting and the moon would be slowly making its journey across the sky. The moon would be only a crescent but that still meant the island wasn't within their reach.
Alaya looked up at the sky wishing she could take off the annoying bandanna but that would risk everything. Worst punishment would be to throw her to the sharks. Like that would do anything really. The hammerheads wouldn't hurt a siren even if they are only half. If something like that did happen all she had to do was sing and then she could make the men forget.
She shook her head. Why did she even have such thoughts nothing was going to happen. Alaya went back to work enjoying the cool air.

Caesar came up the steps from the lower deck, happy as a clam. He had been unusually merry recently. Even more joyous than normal. He took the mop and pail from Alaya and began to swab the deck with shocking enthusiasm. He started singing, his voice ringing out over the waters for all the world to hear. "With the land at me back, the sea by me side, me bride in me arms here at high tide! Yo ho, yo ho! Just the sky and sea, the gulls and the sharks, me gal and me! Yo ho, yo ho! With me ship and me crew, we'll sail the night away into the blue! With rum and whiskey, me gal and me bed, we'll have such fun with things unsaid! Yo ho, yo ho! Just the sky and the sea, the gulls and the sharks, me gal and me!" The mop glided over the deck in rhythm with the song, quick and happy as Caesar. The song continued on, but he finished with the deck rather quickly. He tossed the mop aside and emptied the pail into the ocean before climbing into the rigging. Tangling his feet and legs into the ropes, he hung upside down, gazing over the waters to the setting sun. As he sang his little tune, Sirinity's face appeared on the horizon, placed there only by his imagination.

As glad as she was for not having to clean that night, Alaya wondered what had gotten into the sailor. She sat on the railing and looked over to the horizon. "So what's on your mind tonight?" She asked. It was odd seeing him this happy. Alaya breathed in the salty air and closed her eyes as the salt water splashed in her face as a wave hit the side of the ship. She had a huge urge to dive into the water and swim off. Oh how she wished she had fins like the other sirens. Then again she liked to have legs. It made it easier to blend in with humans. Her thoughts dove beneath the waves in her simple dream.

Caesar smiled happily and leaped down from the rigging. "Nothing. Nothing at all!" he chuckled. "I feel as if I could fly. My mind is empty, my heart is full, Yo ho! Yo ho!" he shouted to the sky, taking Alaya's head under his arm and rubbing the bandanna with his knuckles. He would have pulled her off the rail and spun her in a circle, but that's what guys do to girls that are more like their sisters. She looked like a boy, so he wasn't going to give her away, or make himself appear queer or anything. "What lies on all gentlemen minds, hmm?" he jeered, letting her go. Caesar went to mid-deck and lit the matches that he had in his pockets, taping them between his toes and fingers and proceeded to do tricks for any other sailor to see. Backflips, frontflips, cartwheels, handstands, and all other things. He was like a circus performer.

Alaya rubbed the top of her head when he let go of her. She laughed as she watched him run and jump about. "So who's the lucky girl?" She teased. Alaya climbed the rope that led to the crows nest. she held on with one hand, keeping one foot on the rope she spread out her other arm enjoying the sea air. She pushed herself off the rope and flipped backwards landing on her hands before coming back to a standing position. She tightened her bandanna slightly to make sure it didn't come off. Seeker came back to rest on her shoulder eying the happy sailor.

Caesar looked up and snuffed out the fire before climbing up to the crow's nest aswell. He waved a finger at her, beckoning for her to come nearer. "Can you keep a secret?" he whispered. It was dangerous for anyone to know, but there was no way that Caesar could contain himself. He needed someone to tell without having to worry about being discovered. He waited happily for an answer, if she said no, then it was fine with him. He would talk to a bottle of rum or something. Or just babble to himself. Nothing could bring him off cloud nine. But it would be nice to tell an actual person.

Alaya nodded and climbed back up the rope. She was across from him with the rope separating them. She of all people could keep a secret, and she really wanted to know what was up with Caesar. She glanced quickly around to make sure there was no one else on the deck before looking at Caesar. 'So what is it, well more like who is it?" She asked in a hushed tone.

A smile lit his face from ear to ear. "Sirinity Godspeed." he whispered quietly, and at the sensation of her name in his mouth, his grin only grew wider. He put his mouth to Alaya's ear, though it wasn't necessary. There was no one really around. But it was just an extra precaution. "A Siren." he whispered, even more quietly then before, and then returned to his spot opposite her on the crow's nest. "And not the kind with tails." he added. She was of the other pirate band. They were supposed to be enemies, and their love was clearly forbidden. It was punishable by death.

Alaya smiled and almost lost her grip on the rope. To think that he would fall in love with someone he couldn't. No wait she could see that happening. "That's great! Really just as long as no one else finds out about it. "I bet in your eyes she is a real siren. Some maiden who stole your heart from the sea" Alaya climbed higher up the rope and looked out over the horizon. She started to hum a simple tune, well more like a lullaby her mother sang to her during stormy nights. A sharp breeze blew past. Alaya closed her eyes and let the wind blow past her.

He nodded happily. "That she is, mate." Caesar beamed. He hung from his knees over the crow's nest. One bad move, and he would plummet to his death, either into the deck or into the sea, it would be the end of him. But he was too happy to care, and it wasn't like he hadn't done it before. He took up his own song again. Just the sky and the sea, the gulls and the sharks, me gal and me!"

Alaya laughed as she listed to his ridiculous song. She understood he was happy and everything even if his love was forbidden, that only made the love stronger. "What would you say if I went for a swim right now?" She asked. Alaya was serous about it too. She would love to go swimming but it would give herself up not just about being a girl but also something Caesar didn't know. She really didn't mind being out at sea all the time but she loved to be under the waves even more, it was as if every fiber of her being was telling her to dive in.

He looked up from where he hung off the side of the nest. "I'd say you were crazy and suicidal." he told her, climbing back in. "Hammerheads patrol these waters like nobody's business. They'd kill you." he told her. He opened his mouth and slammed it shut, so that his teeth made a loud noise as they collided again, like a shark. "Why, are you thinking about going swimming?" he asked her.

Alaya laughed at his comment about the hammerheads. "For you, yes I guess they would be dangerous. If you paid me I wouldn't mind jumping right now. But yes I would love to go swimming" She said her teasingly. She wouldn't give herself that easily. And the hammerheads wouldn't hurt her considering she was a friend.

"Pirate." he accused, clearly pleased that she was learning how to act like one of the Sea Hounds. Always grab the loot if you could. So he pulled out two gold coins and handed them to her. "Alright then. I guess that's something I'll pay to see. If you can swim in these waters and come out alive, I'll give you another ten." But then he looked at her with a warning expression. "But honestly, I hope you know what you're doing. Don't go get yourself killed over a few pieces of gold."

Alaya grinned. "You better get out those ten more coins. She looked at the water. She was high enough to reach the water if she jumped. Alaya loosened the tie on her bandanna. She jumped and dived towards the water. The bandanna came off allowing her hair to come loose. She dove into the cool water. The salt water was welcoming to her skin. She looked around as she swan. The sharks took little interest to her. They knew she was just out for a swim and wasn't bothering them. Some would come and swim next to her but otherwise they let her enjoy herself. She came up for air and looked up at Caesar. She smiled and swam off towards her bandanna that floated on the water. She swam for a little bit longer before coming back to the ship. She looked up at Caesar. "So do i get some help up or not?" She asked as she fixed her hair back into the bandanna.
