Rosalyn sat with her legs stretched out in front of her, her bare feet and calves just within reach of the water. She leaned back on the palms of her hands, the light breeze lifting her hair. A stumbling black figure wriggled out of her knapsack, which sat a few feet away. The pup padded to Rose's side, and climbed into her lap. It sat down, facing her, and let out a sharp yap. Rose grinned, and nodded to the water, "I suppose you're about ready for a bath." Maldwyn tilted his head, his left ear flopped.

Rascal made her way through the trees to Seahorse Bay. The day was young, and the air cool and fresh upon her ever-frowning face. "Smile, at least once today." Artemis chided, slithering silently through the brush.
"Smile or I'll scratch one into your face with my claws." Marie added in, threateningly. At this, Alice had to smile. The cat was more like her than any. She stroked her black fur, as the feline rode upon her shoulder today rather than the serpent.
That was when she stopped short. It appeared someone else was already at the bay. With a wolf pup. Rascal knew, even from a distance. "Go check it out." she whispered to Artemis, whom obediently slithered towards the girl. She was often sent to do the spy-work.

Maldwyn let out another sharp yap as he spotted a long, rope-like creature slithering toward them. He growled, though kept on Rose's lap, not quite brave enough to challenge this new beast. Rose turned around, and spotted the snake. Greetings, She said, smiling.

Artemis stopped cold, raising herself straight up in the air from her belly. "She speaks like you!" she hissed back to Rascal, too shocked to realize that it blew her master's cover. "Greetings, Miss." she said to the girl, ignoring the shuffling sound of Alice and Marie stepping back into the trees, trying to hide. Neither of them were very social, and Rascal had made enough friends through the past few weeks, hadn't she? Damn Artemis for being the social one. But she was the only one who could really sneak any where. Marie and Rascal refused.

Rose glanced to the trees, then returned her gaze to the snake, I am Rosalyn. What might your name be? If you don't mind my asking. Maldwyn grew a little more curious and tumbled off of Rose's lap. He padded slowly toward the snake, his head tilted. He sniffed the air, careful not to get too close.

"I am Artemis." she answered, her eyes turning to the young wolf that approached her. Deep in her throat, the serpent chuckled. "Youthful pup!" she exclaimed, slithering beneath the sand and between his paws, trying to confuse him.
Rascal peered out from where she hid, Marie beside her master's knee. "What the hell is she doing?" she asked. The cat only shook her head.

Maldwyn stared down at the sand as it shifted beneath him. He pranced around, nipping at the mounds which rose and fell from the ground. A high-pitched bark erupted from his throat, and he lowered his torso, his tail wagging rapidly. Rose chuckled, and watched silently, a wide smile on her face.

Artemis sprung from the earth, the sand that had been coating her body falling to the ground as she flew. She aimed at his neck, though mouth closed, nonthreatening. Simple play. Wrapping herself about his throat loosely, she snuggled into the warmth of his fur. "I wish I had fur." she said, more to herself than anyone. "...But I would be too hot in the summer. Damn my cold blood." She slithered off of him, bounding through the sand again for a game of chase. But she circled around the girl whom sat, trying to make the pup dizzy.

Maldwyn leapt into the air, and yapped, his tongue lolled out. He pounced at the snake playfully. His huge paws made it difficult for him to keep up, but he didn't let that slow him down.

Finally, Artemis grew tired and slithered up the arm of the lass and onto her shoulders, hiding. "Your energy is too young for me." she panted, looking down at the little pup.
Rascal and Marie snarled at the serpent from afar, angry that she was forgetting them. "Artemis!" Alice finally called out to her, trying to make her voice sound distant, like a mother calling a child home for supper.
The hair on Marie's back raised. "I don't like dogs." she hissed. "Damned snake, get back here!"
