"It isn't their fault most of the time. Men can't resist obeying their songs and falling in love with them even if it is false love. All they really want is to find the right man to be with them but because of the reef and what not the men die. Also humans can't survive on just seaweed and such. The pirate band does these mysterious creatures injustice for naming their band after them" She said with a fierceness in her voice. Her mother was one of those lucky sirens who could find love from a human but most never can.

"So I see." she said. Rascal understood anger well enough. It was her life. "How do you know so much about them?" asked the girl. She was curious now, and a good conversation could distract her from her hurting for a time.
Artemis slithered around her neck, falling asleep again as she tucked her head into Alaya's hair a second time. Rascal looked at her, absolutely puzzled. The serpent had never so trusted another but Alice.

Alaya looked to the girl, her eyes full of sorrow, secrecy and also a hint playfulness. "Lets just say I understand them more than any Human ever could" She said wondering if the girl could piece everything she said together. The Sirens stopped singing for a moment. Alaya glanced over to the Lagoon trying to figure what was wrong when they started another song.

Rascal looked at her, puzzled. She was only fourteen years old, and didn't suspect much other than a human bloodline. That was all she really knew of. She never learned about the Animagi or other beings. Much less half-bloods. So she shrugged it off and kept quiet about it. "If you understand them so much, why do you keep so far a distance?" she asked. "Isn't it safe to visit them? We are girls, afterall. They can't do anything to us."

Alaya rolled her eyes. "That is where you are wrong. You don't just walk up to a Siren and expect them to accept you even if you are a girl. They are very strict about outsiders and such. I don't even know if I can go over there and they know me" She said as a shiver ran up her spine.

"What are they gonna do?" she asked skeptically. "You won't know until you try. Come on, let's go." This may have been the first time Rascal had ever tried to help someone in a long time. Sure, she had let those two travelers stay at her home, but that wasn't much. All she did was lead them there and show them to their rooms. Her feet passed of the sand, walking in the direction the songs were coming from. "Besides, they've only got tails. If they come after us, we'll just run."

Alaya sighed but followed the girl. What was going to happen? Would they be accepted? This is what Alaya came her to do but now she wasn't sure. Did she really want to see her home again and sing with the sirens like she did when she was little? Her heart pounded as they reached the creatures. They stopped their song and watched the girls.

Rascal stopped at the water's edge as the sirens stopped their singing. They all stared at them, and Alice wasn't sure just what to do. She stared back for a moment, thinking. Well, they were half-human, right? And they sought human men. So, maybe they could just treat them as humans. "I'm Alice." she said, wondering all of a sudden why she hadn't used her nickname. Maybe because these creatures would never see her any place other than here. "And this is Alaya." she introduced the other girl.
Artemis slithered down to the ground again, resting at the edge of the shore. "I'm Artemis." she spoke, but doubted if they could understand. Only Alice had ever understood her. But, these weren't humans. They were creatures, just as she was. Maybe, with a little luck, they could understand. Just like the cat could understand back home. Animals understood one another. They were half-animal.
One of the sirens swam nearer to them, and Rascal froze, looking to Alaya for guidance. She knew nothing about these creatures. But it seemed that they didn't have to worry much. It ignored Alice, and swam slowly towards the other girl.

Alaya noticed that the snake did speak. She understood slightly. Reptiles were similar to fish in that way. She looked up to see one of the Sirens come towards her. It was the leader of the group. Alaya took a deep breath and bowed her head in respect. "It is goo to see that you have found your way back to the sea young one" The Siren stated. "It is good to be back" Alaya stated. She looked over to Rascal then back to the siren.

Rascal mimicked Alaya's every move, not willing to screw up. She too bowed her head, and wouldn't speak unless spoken too. Artemis, on the other hand, was not so bright. "What's your name?" she asked, swimming into the water near the siren. That was Artemis. Always friendly. These creatures had the same calm about them that Alaya had. The snake was too quick to trust. Alice bit her tongue and refrained from grabbing after the snake. All she could do was hope that the sea-woman took an understanding to the serpent's behavior.
