Alaya stopped and looked at Titus. What was he going to do? She was taken aback at his question. She had ridden dolphins, swam with sharks but never had she ridden a horse. Then again she never needed to. Alaya shook her head, "No I haven't" She didn't have to go to the ship right away, and maybe it would be good to learn something that she might be able to use later.

"Well... Would you like to?" he asked her. "I can teach you, if you like. We can go for a ride to wherever you please. Through the forest or on the ocean shore. Both are fun." Titus said, trying to tempt her more. Girls loved horses. His soft eyes pleaded for her to accept his offer. He intended to win her heart, and he wasn't giving up until he did.

Alaya didn't know. She wouldn't mind learning how to ride, it could be useful but she also wanted to get back to the ship. She didn't need to be back just yet so what was the harm of a quick ride. "Alright I guess a quick ride wouldn't hurt" She said wondering if that was such a good idea.

Titus smiled brightly. "You really are the adventurous type." he grinned at her with that smile that stole the hearts of girls. But Alaya was no girl. She was a woman, with a heart that burned like fire. A soul that flew with the ocean mist. A spirit as free as a bird. A body as beautiful as the sunset, and a kindness sweeter than a fire on a winter night, even if she didn't show it. He could see it in her eyes, that kindness. It was just hard to work her guard down enough, something that he was working on right now. That was his challenge. The challenge that she presented him. He lead her back through the forest, but about half-way through, he took a different trail. They weren't going back to town. He took her a little ways away from Cutlass, perhaps a mile or so, to his home. There were no Sirens here, and the place was peaceful. The house was made of nature's wood, and bricks made up the chimney. It really was a beautiful thing, but to say that he had made it would be a lie. He had worked hard to earn the money to buy such a pretty home, away from all the drama of Cutlass. "This is my place." he said. "My parents live with me, because they have nowhere else to go. The pirates seized their land and destroyed our old farm. Mother and Father are too old to work now." he explained. "But we won't disturb them now." He said, knowing that his mother was probably sewing something and his father reading by the fire, hence the smoke that came from the chimney. Titus lead her to the barn, where he kept his two horses, a stallion and a mare. "The ol' girl is too pregnant to ride." he said. "But my boy is as tame as a kitten. He'll carry you well." he promised, leading him out of the stall and saddling him. "His name is Socrates." Titus chuckled a bit. "Dad named him after that Greek philosopher." He turned to look at Alaya, judging how long her legs were, and adjusted the stirrups. He put a bridle over the white horse's head, patted him on the nose, and lead him out of the barn. "I can give you a leg up." he told her, "And then I'll let you ride him a bit, walk, trot and canter, before we go on our ride. We don't have to gallop this time." (couldn't find a pic of a white one, but same breed: Socrates

Alaya was beginning to wonder where Titus was taking her, that is until they reached the house. She was grateful for not having to see his parents. Not that she wanted to be rude but she didn't really know Titus and she was sure she wouldn't get to know him. She was a pirate and a Siren, and he wasn't really the sea faring type, he hated pirates so how could it work. She walked put to the horse and placed her hand on his muzzle. He seemed friendly enough. She rolled her eyes at the idea of letting Titus help her. She had seen men mount and unmount a horse when she worked at Liquorpool. She placed her hands on the horses back and tested her weight slightly before lifting herself up. She sat sidesaddle since she was in a dress. She looked down at Titus wondering what he had to say now.

He stood back, watching as she helped herself on. "Very good." he said, making no effort to hide how impressed he was. But then she sat sidesaddle. "Um..." Titus had never ridden sidesaddle. He didn't know how to instruct her. With two stirrups it was easy to balance your weight. But with only one foot... wouldn't you feel lop-sided? That was all that Titus could imagine, but she seemed comfortable enough. But at a full canter on a clydsdale, could she stay on? To him, it seemed almost impossible. Even a trot might be difficult. "Try sitting with two feet in the stirrups." he said. "It won't ruin your dress. I just don't want you falling off."

Alaya was confused when he spoke of switching her position. She was great a keeping her balance, that came with being out at sea all the time. All she had to do was move with the horse not against it. "If i think I am about to fall I will switch my position but not until then" She said as a matter a factlly. She wasn't about to budge just yet. She had never been on a horse and she wasn't about to ride them often. She couldn't wait till she went back to the ship.

Titus laughed. Determined, she was. He liked it. "Alright then." he said, thinking it better to let her have it her way.
He patted Socrates and handed the reins to Alaya. "Right, left." he said, pulling on the alternately. "Stop." he pulled back on both. "Back." he tugged the left rein, and the horse backed slightly before Titus let go. "You're the boss, you've gotta tell him where to go. If you want walk, just cluck." He made sure she was on alright before giving a single cluck, and the stallion walked. His back a rhythm, long stride and powerful.

Alaya nodded her understanding as she was told the simple instructions. When the horse started to walk it felt strange. Alaya wasn't used to being on anything like this. Yes she was used to a ship but a horse was different. It was alright but not something she would do all the time. Alaya looked up at the sky. She would have to go soon anyway. She jumped off the horse and looked at Titus. "Thank you but I must be on my way" She said.

"My lady, please!" he said, catching her by the hand again. "Just one ride, for you and I." Titus pleaded. "Down by the sea, riding over the shore-waves and breaking the moonlight." It was romantic. "One often meets his destiny on the rode he takes to avoid it. So take the path less traveled by. Ride with me." His eyes sparkled up at her as he knelt on one knee, begging. "We may even swim if you like. Upon horseback, through the ocean waters, in sunset's beauty that cannot even fathom your own." Titus gave her a charming little smile. "Please, my lady? What is there to lose?"

Alaya rolled her eyes and turned her back on the begging man. "What is there to loose? Well for one I will be left here, the ship is leaving tonight, and I will be out of a job. So there is a lot to loose" She said. It was partly true, they were not leaving tonight but it was her turn to clean the deck that night and she didn't want to get into any trouble. The men would want to get away from here soon. "Look I am going. It was nice meeting you" She said then walked back towards the sea.

A woman working on a ship? It made him wonder. Most sailors that came in from the sea said the women were bad luck on a ship. But Alaya was different. She certainly was strong enough to handle the ocean, and she was by no means a jynx. He noted that in his mind.
"Wait!" he called, scrambling after her. "If you will be late for your ship, fair lady, then let me give you a ride." He jumped onto Socrates' back and trotted the last few steps before coming to a halt, hand extended down to her. But he knew he couldn't make her get on the horse. "Please." he said. "It would be an honor if I could do you this favor."

Alaya knew that the horse would be faster but she wasn't about to let Titus find out anything. She had to change and loose him which would be hard if she had him take her to the port. "No thank you. I much rather walk" She said half wishing she didn't. She knew that she couldn't risk blowing her cover. She had just gotten used to the crew and the life at sea and wouldn't screw it up now.

"Then let me walk with you." he persisted eagerly, climbing down from his horse to stand with her. "Bandits and thieves lie in your midst, fair maiden. And with such beauty as yours, they would be sure to take you. You would be whisked away, and I shall never again have the pleasure to lay eyes on you." he told her charmingly, offering his arm as a gentleman would. "Allow me to be your escort. I insist." He smiled at her again, trying to show that he meant her no harm. "I shall fight them off should they approach. With one blow I could rid them of their heads." He added, trying to impress her.

She knew that either way he was going to follow her. Alaya sighed. "I don't need protecting. Yet, no matter what i say you are going to come" She stated and walked off down the road not caring if he followed. She really didn't want to be late and she was looking forward to the trip no matter what it entailed. It was strange however to have spent the day with Titus, even if she couldn't completely be herself. It was a nice change from acting like a boy all the time.
